The restaurant was the standout for me, with really good food and wine. The rooms are small, but very cute, and the whole place has a style that feels like stepping back to the 1800s, with a bit of an Indian touch. It’s a lovely spot out in the middle of nowhere, especially if you’re there to hike.

We came back for a second visit and had just as good a time as the first. I enjoyed sitting and chatting with Udo while my family got ready to go out. It’s an authentic old hotel, and I’d definitely recommend a visit. A friend recommended this place in her town for a few days with my family while we were visiting her. It was a peaceful break from the city, and my wife and kids loved it. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, and I had a lovely conversation with the owner, Udo Gündel, every day. We had a great stay, and I’d happily come back.

What made the stay special was how welcoming the owners were. They were busy, but still found time to chat with guests with a smile and a sense of humor, which made us feel at home. We’ve already booked another stay, and after plenty of motorcycle trips and hotels, this place is in my top three. We found the hotel online while looking for a spontaneous Pentecost weekend ride, four people on three motorcycles, with one night and breakfast. We came about 330 km from the Ruhr area on country roads and arrived around 5 PM. The owner greeted us warmly, served drinks quickly, and even brought the customary celebratory beer before check-in. Booking on the hotel website or by phone worked out cheaper than the other websites where it’s listed. Built in 1890, the hotel is in the small village of Kleinich/Hunsrück. There’s a well-kept slate and stone facade, a main building with a restaurant, and an adjoining guesthouse with 17 single and double rooms. The house has plenty of old-fashioned charm, with half-timbering, creaky wooden floors from the Wilhelminian era, and thoughtful decor. It isn’t a modern, high-tech hotel, but the rooms are clean, comfortable, and have what you need. The Wi-Fi worked well, and the password came on a slip with the keys. There’s a terrace outside the restaurant with around 20-30 seats, plus more seating in the garden below. We ate both dinner and breakfast outside because the weather was lovely, so I can’t say how many seats there are indoors. Guests can also use the large garden beside the guesthouse. Parking is plentiful behind the hotel, reached by a gravel track, and along the road below. There’s no covered parking or garage for motorcycles, though I don’t need one and other riders can bring covers. The menu is deliberately small, with a few starters, mains, and desserts, but there’s enough for a week’s stay. The food was excellent and came promptly. We had a proper veal Wiener Schnitzel, rump steak on a hot stone, pike-perch fillet, and burgers with sides, all delicious. Drinks came quickly too. There was a daily specials menu while we were there, though you’d have to ask whether that’s always available. They’re happy to accommodate special requests when they can. Breakfast is a buffet with cold cuts, cheeses, muesli, fruit, jam, quark, and various rolls, which were warm when we had them. I heard gluten-free bread and rolls are available too. Eggs are cooked to order, or guests can cook them themselves when the hotel is full, using a colored immersion heater and timer. Coffee tasted good, and there was tea, orange juice, and water as well.

We went there for dinner on New Year’s Eve and loved how beautiful the place was, decorated with so much care and good taste. The owner was friendly and attentive, and the small menu had lovely choices. Everything tasted fantastic, wines included. We could have happily stayed longer, forgetting the time and everyday life. We wish the family every success and hope the lovely restaurant keeps thriving for years.

We had breakfast outside, and it was very good. The owners are so, so friendly. The rooms are cozy and clean, though you can hear some noise through them.
