Bürgerhof Hotel

The location is great, with everything close by, and the place is clean and no-frills. Shower pressure is good, typical for a small European combined bathroom. The TV didn't work, and there was no one at the front desk. There's no in-room temperature control; the heating seems to run on a timer. In December our room felt cold.

At least the rooms and bathrooms were clean, but I wouldn't recommend this place. There was basically no reception, and the doorbell was the only way to communicate. No luggage room or late checkout either. The room window wouldn't close all the way. On a windy night in mid-February, I could hear and feel the wind all night. The heating wasn't on when I arrived, and the window was open. I had to turn on the heat, then go out to find somewhere warm for dinner while waiting for the room to heat up. The welcome was totally unacceptable.

The shower was powerful and warm, and the hotel was very clean and tidy throughout. The reception lady was lovely, and the free continental breakfast was tasty, especially the cheeses. The old town location is great, right in central Cologne, and it was a good price. But if you want more than somewhere to sleep, look elsewhere. There was no kettle for tea or coffee, no bedside lamp, and no lift to the other floors, which would make things difficult for anyone with limited mobility. The shower had no tray and water quickly spread over the bathroom floor. Maybe they could change the artwork in the room too.

The location is fantastic, close to restaurants, shops, and attractions. The room was clean, but there was nowhere to leave my backpack before or after check-in. The lobby was completely under construction, though work didn't start until later in the day, so it didn't disturb me. Pretty average hotel.
