Gästehaus Holzer

The family-run feel was a real highlight. The couple managing the place were kind, and even came around the dining area at breakfast to greet guests individually. The hotel is in a quiet, cozy neighborhood by lake Konstanz, just steps from the ferry to Meersburg and the lakeside Horlepark. My room was a nice size, with a cozy balcony, new furniture, and a stylish but comfortable modern bed. There were outlets right beside it for charging my phone. The place was clean, quiet, and friendly.

The breakfast was nice, with dine homemade cakes. Rooms facing the street get a lot of light from the street lamps. On hot summer nights, closing the blinds means choosing between darkness and a cool draft, so a fan would help. The location is handy for the Meersburg ferry, and buses to the city center run often. There are a few restaurants and bars at the harbour for a relaxed meal or drink without heading into town. You can also swim in the lake at a beach about five minutes away on foot.

I especially liked their wine.

I booked two rooms. Room #11 was completely quiet, while #4 was quite noisy. Both were very clean, and there were magazines and flyers. The sensor-operated water dispenser at the bathroom sink drove me up the wall. Parking cost an extra €11, and the few free spaces nearby are often taken, though you might find one with a bit of luck. There was also a nice range of snacks and drinks to buy for self-service.
