The hotel is a long way from central Konstanz, more than 40 minutes on foot, and the surroundings are mostly rather charmless new office blocks. Still, it felt safe and lively after dark. There’s a bus every 15 minutes to the center and train station, and the walk or cycle in includes an attractive riverside promenade lined with restaurants. The Rio references feel all the more tongue-in-cheek in this setting. The buffet was hectic and relatively expensive, so the fully equipped kitchen in our welcoming room was useful. It had crockery, utensils, and a Nespresso machine, enough to make a full breakfast and skip the crowded buffet. The hotel’s amenities are extensive, from a stylish roof terrace to secure bike parking and charging. Everything worked well. Weeks later, we’re still talking about the stay. The hotel has a serious commitment to quality but also a sense of fun, and reception was personable, knowledgeable, and efficient.

One of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in. The room was so comfortable and had everything I needed, with a great interior and even birds singing in the hallway 🥰 The staff were friendly, breakfast was good, and I’d give it 5 out of 5 💟

Best value for money I’ve had in a while. The staff were very friendly, cocktails tasty, and the lobby was great, with lots of activities and board games, an acoustic guitar, and toys for kids. Amazing place, really recommend it!

The checkout was much more pleasant, with Patrick asking how our stay had been. The arrival was the opposite. We spent 15 minutes in the lobby at 14:00 trying the self-service kiosk with no staff around. A female staff member then came from the staff room and said that wasn’t how it worked, without welcoming us, apologizing, or even smiling. Check-in took 30 minutes in all. She also stopped to answer a question from another guest already being helped by someone else, even though they had arrived 15 minutes after us. Throughout the stay, communication was directed to the second guest on the booking rather than the main guest, who had paid for it. We weren’t told basic house rules, so had to find the lift ourselves and locate the iron we’d requested before arrival. There’s only one iron in the whole hotel, and it can only be used in the laundry room. Our room had a terrible view and just one socket next to the bed. The bathroom door creaked badly, and the toilet seat was broken.
