I’m glad I took the small detour south on my way from Gedser-Rostock and farther south. Parking was good, and the service and staff were friendly and welcoming. I prefer little gems like this to big, bland chains. Places like this are exactly why.

We come back pretty much every year. It’s a laid-back family place, with apartment-style rooms where you can cook for yourself or enjoy the gorgeous kitchen in the restaurant. The hotel sits right by the lake, with a little beach-like area and grass between the building and the water.

On our second visit, the bistro again proved it deserved to be called a restaurant. The food is genuinely good quality and made to order, and the service is friendly and pretty professional, well, like a tree surgeon, but still very good. The beer works like a kiddie in a coal mine. The interior looks exactly like the paint-by-numbers version of a dining room, which fits my definition of a mediocre bistro with a formula menu of pre-prepared meals. Thankfully, this place breaks that mold somewhat.
