Best Western Plus Royal Suites

Breakfast had plenty to choose from, and the rooms were both comfortable and quiet. Best Western is just steps from the main station, with public transport close by and the town centre an easy walk away. It made a reliable, welcoming base for exploring Leipzig.

The rooms were clean and had a nice balcony, and breakfast was good, served until 11. The station is only about five minutes away, with a tram stop right beside the hotel. That can get noisy if you need to open the windows in summer, since there's no air conditioning. You can borrow fans from reception, though I only found that out when I was checking out.

Five days before check-in, the hotel called to say they couldn't accommodate me because, according to them, a major hack at Booking had caused unavailable rooms to be listed. I had booked on April 30, more than a week earlier. They said it was Booking's fault and offered no other help. I couldn't find any information about this supposed hack, and Booking didn't seem to know about it when I called. Why wait so long to tell me, so close to my arrival? It left me in a very stressful position. Even if there really had been a system hack, I don't think a hotel should simply cancel a stay, blame Booking, and leave the customer to sort it out. I pointed out that they were a chain with several hotels in the city and asked whether they could find me a room elsewhere. They said no, because the hotel was privately owned. I believe a hotel this large could find a solution, but they weren't willing to take responsibility. Booking wasn't much help either, beyond offering a refund. Other hotels were now almost twice as expensive as when I booked, and €60 wasn't enough to cover the difference. I was left without a hotel just five days before arrival, under a lot of stress. If you're flexible, this hotel might be fine. But if something goes wrong, don't count on them to help. Blaming Booking was much easier for them.
