Leonardo Hotel und Residenz

The hotel’s atmosphere felt like a haunted house, with skull artwork and dark statues in the rooms. I wouldn’t bring young children here, as they could get scared. The interior theme was very poor, and the low number of guests we saw at breakfast and reception, just two or three, added to that feeling. I don’t understand how this place got a 4-star rating. Breakfast was very poor. We had to ask for even white bread and cereal to be refilled, as it seemed prepared for only five or six people because occupancy was so low. We were lucky to get parking, but there are only five or six spaces, and finding a spot on the street would be a nightmare. The WiFi was very slow, as other reviewers have said. The bedroom heater didn’t work well, and the room was cleaned only every two days. The bathroom lighting was very poor, and the AC was loud. There wasn’t a phone in the room, and the key card failed twice during our two-day stay. The sauna also cost an extra €15 per guest and had to be registered for. Ridiculous.

The staff were so kind, helpful, and friendly, and really tried to make our stay comfortable. I wasn’t happy with the limited breakfast selection, though. I hadn’t expected much, but the place won me over with its charm and distinctive character. It wasn’t just a room, it was a beautiful two-story apartment with decorative pieces like a sofa and lamp. Definitely somewhere to stay for more than one night. A memorable trip for all the right reasons.

At checkout, I noticed a charge on the bill that couldn’t have been ours, so we asked about it. The receptionist didn’t speak English and called the general manager, who came over arrogantly and tried to insist that every item was our expense. We disputed the breakfast charge because we had already paid for it with the accommodation two months earlier. The manager got louder and ruder. I firmly told him to change his tone and speak to us politely as guests. He said “one of us” had insulted him last time. I asked who he meant by “us” and “them,” and how we were different, since this was the first and last time I’d ever see him. If he’d had trouble with someone, he couldn’t generalize about us. I don’t know how he was classifying us. He then said there would be no place for us at the hotel in the future. I couldn’t tell whether he meant our nationality, company, or something else. Shameful, discriminatory, and extremely unprofessional. We were a group of 12 business people on an official trip to the fair. Two years earlier, there had been a few more of us. We’d chosen Almedia even though it’s not close to the fair, rooms are cleaned every other day, breakfast is below average, there’s no way to set up a telephone line, and the WiFi is weak or keeps dropping, because we considered those things acceptable.

Breakfast was very good, and the rooms were clean and quiet. It’s not far from downtown. Internet can be slow at times, and parking may be difficult when the place is busy.
