Meisterzimmer

We stayed in Room #3 and #1, and liked both. They’re bright, cute, and very clean, with quirky, fun interiors. The proprietor was really helpful. We came to Leipzig for the galleries in Spinnerei, so being right in the complex made the location perfect. It’s a place for the more adventurous: there’s no elevator, so keep that in mind if you have a heavy suitcase. After two flights of stairs, you get a taste of artsy living and the convenience of staying in Spinnerei.

The room was pleasant enough, but felt a bit expensive for what it offered. It’s not a luxury stay, and there’s no reception on site, just a phone number for emergencies. We had to call right away because our booking hadn’t been registered properly. The room we’d requested also wasn’t ready, so we ended up in a smaller one. It was okay, but not ideal. Our room had no blinds or curtains, and the neon light outside made it very bright at night, so bring an eye mask if you need a dark room to sleep. This is one of four rooms in a former factory in Leipzig’s Plagwitz area. The rooms are artfully done, with nice touches to the industrial feel, like the ping pong table in the hall. Spinnerei nearby has artists’ workshops and galleries, which make for an interesting visit even if you don’t stay overnight.

I felt at home in this apartment. The furniture and other things aren’t new or bland, everything has been used and reused. If you book, take the option to rent bikes from the apartment. The only other way to rent bikes in Leipzig is through the terrible, terrible Next Bike app. There are plenty of nice shops and places to eat around the meisterzimmer, plus lots of green parks. Food is fairly cheap compared with the Netherlands. And be sure to read the hidden message in the wooden Red Cross wallcloset....

I liked the design and the facilities, and there’s lots of room. It’s an adventurous apartment in an old cotton mill, in a 19th-century neighborhood in western Leipzig. The old city center is about twenty minutes away.
