Hotel Klaukenhof

A quiet place, with a good internet connection and an okay room.

Really nice.

We liked the location, the friendly service, and the food was okay, though the rooms were noisy. What disappointed us was the way a genuine emergency was handled. After a vet visit and then a veterinary clinic an hour away, our dog needed treatment at home in Berlin for suspected babesiosis, so we had to leave after one of our three nights. We were still charged for the full stay and every meal we'd booked. We know reservations involve planning and costs, but in such an exceptional situation we hoped the owner might show some goodwill, flexibility, and compassion. We won't be coming back.

I never stayed at the hotel. Even the email inquiry felt like knocking on a door they would rather keep closed. The reply was polite, but distant, and left me with the sense that they prefer busloads of guests to individual travelers. It seemed clear that solo guests don't really fit their setup, like a single instrument in a marching band. They could apparently accommodate me, but the wording suggested they were reluctant to depart from their usual group arrangement. My question got an answer, yet the implication between the lines was that the place is built for a completely different scale. If being a solo traveler seemed unusual just from asking, I can imagine how the stay might feel: probably well organized for groups, with solo travelers as a polite afterthought. That email exchange felt more distant than an empty ballroom.
