It's only about 30 kilometers from Winterberg, so you can stay affordably and ski there. The food is excellent, though the wine list is a bit limited. The hotel itself is cozy, with beautiful, comfortable rooms, everything very clean, and very friendly staff. In the evenings, sitting in the tiled stove parlor with a bottle or two of red wine is truly relaxing.

I stayed there in 2013 and felt right at home. The service was friendly and uncomplicated, the price was reasonable, and I really enjoyed the food. The location worked well too. If you're going to the Carl May Festival and live farther away, this hotel is a great choice. The rooms are beautifully decorated in an 80s style, which I really like, and even have a good old CRT TV. The bathroom is spacious and feels luxurious, and I especially liked the corner bathtubs. Everything was tidy and clean, which matters a lot to me. I'd recommend it 100%. I think it deserves 5.5 stars rather than 3, though not 6, since there's no pool or sauna, and you can't really expect that here.

We celebrated my grandmother's birthday here, and the menu was fantastic. The venison main course was superb, and the vanilla cream dessert with caramelized apples and cinnamon was a delight too.

We've traveled a lot around the Sauerland region and stayed in 5-star hotels in Hochsauerland district, so I have to say it: Buckmann's has nothing to hide. The hotel is well maintained, the service is friendly without being intrusive, the cuisine is outstanding, and the restaurant spotless. What more could you want? The best Obatsda (a type of Austrian fried pastry) ever! Mr. M. must be an envious colleague with a small, run-down pub.
