Berghotel Bastei

The Bastei bridge is so close, and that location is the main reason to choose this nice hotel. Breakfast was good and the bathroom felt modern, though the mattress was pretty soft. Parking is about a five-minute walk away, so arriving after sunset means walking there in the dark. A little spooky 👻

Get up early if you want to enjoy the awesome views before the tourists arrive. We stayed at the Bastei for seven days, right in the middle of everything, and it made a great central base for hikes. The employees were friendly and helpful, and the service was perfect. Breakfast was absolutely complete.

The massage itself was great, but sorting it out was frustrating. I called ahead and was told booking it on-site would be no problem. When we tried, the masseuse was nowhere to be found, and by the time we reached him, we had to take massages at that very hour. The sauna was great too, but its hours weren't clear. We had to give 30 minutes' notice to have it opened, then the next day I was told it didn't open until 2pm. The hotel and its location were great, but for a hotel that showcases its spa, it was disappointing trying to use those services.

Katherin at the front desk made a big difference during our visit. She was enthusiastic and gave us detailed, exactly-what-we-needed help finding hikes and restaurants around the area. She explained everything in English, which made things much quicker and easier. My wife and I spent 3 weeks in Germany, Austria and Czechia, and she was the finest hotel service person we met on the whole trip. What a treasure.
