Holiday Inn Mannheim City - Hauptbahnhof by IHG

We had a beautiful stay, and the location was fantastic. Our executive room worked perfectly for us, including the extra baby bed. The bed was the largest I've ever slept in, and we loved the electric roller blinds for their convenience. Breakfast was delicious, and the staff there were just as attentive and friendly as the kind, welcoming woman at reception who made us feel valued as soon as we arrived. It was a pleasure to stay here. We'd definitely love to return.

The biggest advantage here is how close Holiday Inn Mannheim HBF is to Mannheim railway station. Breakfast is good, too. Beyond that, my return stay brought back the same problems as before. I arrived at 10:00 AM and was identified at reception as an IHG Gold Elite member, but early check-in wasn't arranged. I waited nearly two hours for a room, and once assigned, the room felt below average with no meaningful recognition of my status. Room 230 has a strange layout: a long, narrow entrance corridor takes up usable space, leaving the main room crowded and uncomfortable, with little clearance around the bed. It feels much smaller than other standard rooms. The amenities were lacking again. There was no microwave or mini-bar/fridge, which I strongly feel is a basic expectation in a modern hotel, especially for longer stays. On Day 1 I got one bottle of water and none after that. Water is available on the ground floor, but that's inconvenient. The basement gym was disappointing, with limited equipment and just one treadmill that's often occupied. The air-conditioning was poor and confusing, so it was hard to tell if it worked properly. This was a repeat visit after my earlier review, hoping things would improve, but the same issues remained. The property feels more like a franchise with little quality oversight than a consistently managed IHG hotel. As a Gold Elite member, I didn't feel recognized or see any effort, and it makes you wonder what status would get basic attention. Room quality, amenities, and loyalty recognition are lacking. After two stays, I'll look for another hotel next time. The room was clean when I arrived, and staff were good during my interactions. Initially I found the location perfect for a Mannheim visit and thought IHG consistency made the hotel reliable. But the rooms can feel very compact, with disappointing views. On a 14-day stay, having no fridge or mini-bar was a major setback because I needed to store vegan food, and there were no special touches or extra-mile efforts for a long-term guest. The hotel is functional, clean, and ideally placed for short-term travelers or IHG loyalists who care most about location over luxury. For stays of 14 days or more, the missing kitchen basics and small rooms make it hard to feel at home. It's a solid transit hotel, but it lacks the comfort needed for an extended visit.

I'm an IHG Platinum Elite member and had stayed here for both family and business trips over the past five years. It used to be a cool place to stay, with easy check-in, clean rooms, and good service. This weekend felt different. My room had just one towel, and it was dirty, apparently left by the previous guest. The TV didn't work, and the Wi-Fi password failed too. Those are small details, but they made me wonder what happened to the good service and the little things that make a stay special. IHG has other hotels in the Mannheim area, so give one of those a try.

They even held our luggage for three days while I traveled to another city. I stayed here for two nights without any complaints. The bath and bed were clean, and the room had a TV, kettle, and wall-mounted AC control panel. The English-speaking staff were the nicest, and the complimentary breakfast was really good, with a nice spread of breads, meat, cereals, pancakes, coffee, and other pastries.
