Montana Landhotel Gummersbach-Nord

The buffet breakfast was more than enough, and the service was good. It's a basic, inexpensive hotel, with simple but clean and usable rooms. Good value for the money, and I'd stay again.

We had a comfortable four-day stay in a green, well-located spot. Our room had a balcony, and the young man at reception was kind and helpful. Sunday breakfast was lovely, with plenty to choose from and delicious fresh bread. Weekday mornings were a different story: the counters were empty by the time other guests arrived. Workers staying there ate early and took most of the food, which is understandable, but staff didn't replenish the dishes or drinks. Guests shouldn't have to ask for the breakfast they've paid for. More attention from the staff would help. Otherwise, I have no complaints.

We enjoyed our family stay. The owners, a couple who also cover reception during the day, were very friendly. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms felt fresh. Most rooms had a balcony with two chairs, handy for smokers to step outside. Breakfast was really nice, though it wasn't included, and there's plenty of space for children to play.

When we booked, there was no mention that the hotel was being renovated in August 2017 to become a Montana Hotel, due to open in September 2017. Some parts did need restoration. We also consider it a serious problem that the indoor pool and sauna weren't available, and this wasn't mentioned either when booking or on arrival. In bad weather, those facilities could be a main reason to choose the hotel. The Wi-Fi was slow, and only a few German satellite TV channels were available, some with interference. Booking directly with the hotel costs less than using booking sites. It has its own restaurant, though we tried places in town, which were good and inexpensive.
