The restaurant meal was surprisingly good, and the service started with a friendly welcome. Breakfast was pretty bare-bones, though there were fresh rolls. I had to ask for sugar, and the quiet in the breakfast room felt oppressive. Some music might help. Later, an employee in swimwear handed me the bill with barely a word. That didn't feel professional. I was first offered a tiny room with a window right across from the kitchen extractor fan. After I complained, they moved me to a bigger double room. I'll leave the furnishings and cleanliness alone. If you're after a good meal and friendly service, this place may suit you. For an overnight stay, though, you'd need to have no expectations of a country inn. Three stars, and only because the food was great.

We'd happily go back anytime. The evening for my birthday, with lots of friends and relatives, was wonderful, and everyone had praise for it. The rooms were modern and tastefully done, the food was outstanding, and the service couldn't have been better. Some guests and we stayed overnight, and they didn't charge us for a room that was cancelled on the day of the celebration. Update: We ate at Schafhof again at Christmas. Another five stars for the superb food and lovely atmosphere.

The lanes at Schafhof Country Inn aren't the newest, so you have to keep score yourself on the board. There are no computers to track different games automatically. Still, bowling was a lot of fun, and the reasonable hourly price per lane makes up for that. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food tasted really good, though it wasn't the best value for money apart from the steaks. Drink prices were reasonable too. We'd gladly come back.

I was happy when my asparagus and rump steak arrived, and the service had been friendly and competent. Then the first bite of meat nearly stuck in my throat. It tasted stale. When I complained, the boss came over furious and said, "You have no expertise," that "the meat is fresh," and that I should "find something new or leave it alone." That's an absolute no-go for me. The boss is choleric, and criticism isn't welcome.
