I stumbled on this hotel while looking for somewhere roughly halfway between Halle and Calais. I’d never heard of Möhnesee, so I was surprised to find such a beautiful, popular area, with the hotel looking out over the lake. My room was small but clean and had everything I needed. The staff were helpful and friendly, and I really enjoyed the food and drinks. I’d heartily recommend staying here.

The setting overlooking the Möhnesee is lovely, but the restaurant staff were surly and charmless, and the food felt just as careless. They managed to suck the joy out of a nice day. I can’t remember a worse lunch or worse service.

From both inside the restaurant and the large outdoor terrace, there’s a beautiful view over the lake. I had a generous salad with grilled chicken, and it was fresh and tasty. The service was quick and friendly, and I really enjoyed my visit to the Forsthaus. Great spot right by the lake, highly recommend it.

The food is awesome, and the lake makes this a super place. Our waiter didn’t always notice when our glasses were empty, but it was worth it for the meal and the setting.

It took 40 minutes just to get drinks, even with 16 of us, and after we ordered we waited another 20 minutes before being told one of the meals wasn’t available. They offered no alternative, so those who couldn’t get their choice settled for chips. After an hour and a half, the meals started coming out, but then we were told there were no chips left, leaving those people with nothing. The suggested replacement was potato croquettes. The service was painfully slow, with no apology or even a reasonable explanation. I wouldn’t recommend eating here.
