Hotel Seeblick

The cod I had one evening was delicious, and the whole dish was filling enough that I wasn't hungry afterward, which can happen to me after a restaurant meal. Breakfast was spot on, too. My apartment was about 100m from the hotel, and it was better than I expected. The bed and furniture were comfy, the shower was lovely, parking was good, and the apartment was to a good standard. The electric window shutters with a remote were a nice touch. Einfelder see made a lovely backdrop as well. Reception could be a little more welcoming at first, but once you get to know them, they're actually lovely and helpful. Thanks for a lovely stay. I'll certainly stay again if I'm over there.

I travel a lot around the EU and have stayed in plenty of hotels around EUR100, but this one was a disaster, especially because of the owner's attitude. I was told the rooms aren't sold with a fridge, so she wasn't obliged to fix or replace the broken minibar fridge. Her only suggestion was to take it out if I didn't need it, since it was just useless furniture. When I asked to speak with the manager or owner, she said she was the owner and there was no one else to complain to. I then asked for the local tourist association's contact details. She said she didn't know them and was rude enough to make it clear she had something more important to do. The hotel looked okay and was generally clean, but it needs a deep renovation. The website gallery and booking.com show several kinds of single and double rooms, but there are also very basic, rather small rooms that aren't listed there. What you see isn't what you get. I was put in one of those tiny rooms, with a small bed and bathroom. Sleeping in that bed wasn't a great experience, though manageable for a couple of nights. As far as I know, most Germans are generally tall, so I think this room type's beds might suit children wanting their own hotel room, or little people. When I complained to the receptionist that the fridge wasn't working, she acted as if she didn't care at all. She seemed unprofessional and concerned only with collecting payment, not the customer experience.

We were just passing through, so we made the most of the good food, comfortable beds, and kind service. It was a lovely place, with old-fashioned hospitality at its best. I think there were water activities available, too.

Frau Engel made the reception experience unpleasant from the first hello to the last, and the time in between felt no better. The hotel's service and the hotel itself were truly awful. Her surname is an ironic fit, because she is no Engel. She seems deeply unsuited to hospitality, perhaps better suited to being a prison guard. Avoid the place at all costs, unless you're looking to write a horror story. It's hard to describe just how horrible it felt, or how unfriendly Frau Engel was. Even Stephen King couldn't imagine her as a character in a horror story.
