Hotel & Gasthof Löwen

The free bike rental in summer, which we found on the hotel website, was the highlight of our trip. The hotel is just over 3 miles from Ulm Minster in the town centre, so biking worked out great. Buses run often and there’s a stop nearby too. Our room and the hotel were clean, crisp, and very up to date, with a towel warmer on the bathroom wall. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and kindly spoke English for us.

I’ve been here before and will definitely come back. One of the best gasthouses in Ulm, highly recommended. I ate vegan this time, and the restaurant was great. The pumpkin soup tasted natural and was perfectly spiced, with just the right amount of pumpkin oil and seeds. The good pumpkin oil made all the difference. The vegan curry was fantastic too, with grilled vegetables, perfect flavour, and a portion almost too big for me. I also had a side salad with mustard in the dressing, just how I like it, as you find in many German restaurants. No need to explain the beer, it’s always good in Germany wherever you drink it or whatever kind you order. It’s a typical German gasthof with a restaurant. The rooms were nice and clean, the employees very friendly, and the price seemed fair for the quality. Breakfast was 15€, with all you need but nothing special, and definitely not enough fruit for me.

Breakfast had a huge spread of meats, cheeses, cereals, rolls, and other continental options. Our lunch was meant to be light: my wife had a cheese and egg salad, and I had a Ceaser salad. The plates were overflowing, and neither of us could finish. On my first night I had pepper steak with French fries. It was perfectly cooked, arranged in the centre of the plate with pepper sauce around it. It needed no vegetables, just the fries, and I really enjoyed it. The food was fantastic throughout. We spent three nights in the hotel, some of the best nights you can imagine. The rooms were clean and airy, and the staff friendly. One small gripe, it would have been nice to have a kettle, coffee, and tea in the room.

The rooms are spacious and modern, with friendly, helpful staff. The bathroom has been recently renovated and was very clean. There’s a reasonably priced minibar, and room service is available for a small charge. The downside for me was having no air conditioning or mosquito netting on the windows.
