Mercure Hotel Muenchen Altstadt

Breakfast was included and amazing, and we really appreciated the coffee. The location was great, within walking distance of Marienplatz and lots of attractions. Our room was modern, clean, and comfortable, and it was so nice to find the fridge stocked. Loved this hotel. I can't wait to go back!

The central location and good service were real pluses. The standard rate also includes a small minibar and breakfast. But my main concern is the room quality and whether it was worth the cost, so I can only give this a 1. The rooms are small and old, and mine was extremely hot despite freezing temperatures outside at night. The AC isn't switched on in winter. The twin beds had small comforters, the shower was tiny and soaked the whole bathroom, there was no dresser for folded clothes, the door kept sticking, and there were only a couple of towels. There were odd smells, the room felt grimy, and renovations meant crowded, dirty hallways. There's just one slow elevator. Breakfast had very few vegan options, and they weren't labeled well. That would be fine if breakfast weren't included in the rate. This costs more than the Mercure in Berlin, where the hotel was much nicer and I slept more easily because of the temperature. For location and service alone, I'd give it 2-3 stars. A substantial price cut, with the minibar and breakfast charged separately, would better suit this particular Mercure as a budget hotel.

A DM store and lots of restaurants are close by, and the Christmas market is just a 2-3 minute walk away. It's a lovely place to stay right in the heart of Munich, with an excellent base for seeing the city. Breakfast was great, especially the eclairs. There were chilies used as dish decoration, and that made my day.

We walked all around town, including to the Christmas markets and the restaurants in Marienplatz. The hotel is in a fantastic location for that, and the train station is only a short walk away, which is handy for trips to other cities. Breakfast was amazing. Our room was super cute and faced the street, but was surprisingly quiet. I'd highly recommend staying here in Munich!
