Design- und Kunsthotel München

We had a great start to our family vacation here. On the 7th floor, our room was roomy and comfortable, with a big toilet and a bath tub. Alex greeted us warmly. The pillow was soft, and the hotel’s good location near stations and town made it a very good stay.

This was our favorite hotel during a three-week train trip, and it felt like a real bargain for what we got. We booked eleven months ahead as part of our Christmas markets trip and paid €266 ($310USD) total for a deluxe double room for 2-nights. It’s listed as a 3-star hotel in most places, but to me it feels like a strong 4-star. The hotel has its own style, not the feel of a chain, and the staff were nice. Our room was huge and clean, with a gigantic TV and a luxury bathroom stocked with nice products, heated towel racks, and a large rain shower with very hot water. We also had a FREE minibar, with refills charged, and a good coffee machine with lots of coffee pod choices. If you leave the little cloth bag on your door to decline room cleaning, they fill it with snacks and other fun goodies for when you return, a great idea. Although it’s on a busy street, automated blackout curtains block the light and most of the noise, so the place felt relaxing. It’s a five-minute walk from the main train station and a 15-minute walk from Marienplatz, where the main market is held.

This no-frills boutique hotel is a good fit for families, couples, or solo travelers. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean and spacious with comfortable beds. The shower had excellent pressure and heat. It’s well placed for both the train station and town center, with a supermarket nearby and a laundromat a few doors down. I highly recommend it.

We had the Kandinsky Jr Suite with Terrace and loved drinking coffee while looking out over the surrounding area. Each room features a 20th century artist’s work, and the stairway has wall-sized reproductions of some of the artists’ best-known pieces. The hotel is charming, unusual, and comfortable, less than 2 blocks from the Munich train station and close to Marienplatz. The room was generally quiet despite facing a busy street, and the beds were comfortable. We also liked the room-darkening blinds, nespresso machine, and fridge stocked with commentary water, beer, and juice. When you skip room cleaning and towel replacement for a day, housekeeping leaves mini bags of Gummi bears to thank you for saving water. Breakfast wasn’t included in our rate and cost 19 euro per person next door. It wasn’t fancy, but had bread, cheese, yogurt, a limited choice of fresh fruit, eggs made to order, and a self-serve espresso machine. For a smaller breakfast, there’s a popular coffee shop across the street with coffee and pastries that would probably be closer to 10-12 euro per person. The area around the train station is a little gritty, but we felt safe enough and loved being near the station and Marienplatz.
