I’m extremely disappointed. Even though we’d booked through booking.com, nobody seemed to know about it. We had to wait before being given room 2. The shared kitchen was dirty. There were washed dishes left on the sink with water spots, hair caught in the drain, and disgusting soap scum on the sink. The dishcloth was old, crumpled, and clearly used, while the tea towel smelled bad. The cupboards were filthy and not very clean, the refrigerator was iced up, the kettle had limescale all over it, and the stovetop burners were crusty around the edges. The kitchen bin was overflowing. Our bedsheet was stained too. In the double room booked for two, there was only one chair at the table. The bathroom had exactly half a roll of toilet paper. I’d give zero stars if that were possible, but it isn’t.

There are a Netto and an Edeka with a bakery just a few meters away, and the area has lovely walks through meadows and to Münzenberg. I had a room twice the size of most hotel rooms, furnished in a modern way I hadn’t seen before. I could work quietly and take conference calls, which mattered to me. At night I watched the stars from the window. I highly recommend it, hence the five stars.

The heating didn’t work, and 14 degrees Celsius in the evening was too cold. The shower base area had mold, and some light bulbs were out. Cleaning leaves a lot to be desired.

The only problem was that the room heating didn’t work, which was a shame. Otherwise, it’s a great place to stay: the landlord is very nice, and the room was clean and comfortable. There’s also a shared kitchen with dishes.

We’d booked through booking.com and paid by credit card, but after our phone call, we were told on-site at 8:30 pm that we couldn’t stay. Nobody was there, and no key had been left for us. This is completely unacceptable. It’s a guesthouse that forgets its guests, and all they could say was, “I can’t help you with that.”
