Hotel Hamburg Nord

The place looked fresh and new, but a cracking noise made me leave in the middle of the night to find somewhere else to sleep. The owner stopped replying, and Booking.com didn't help when I contacted them. It was midnight by then.

The bed was really comfortable, and the rooms are okay. It's easy to arrive any time, with 24-hour check-in, and there's lots of free parking. You can even drive up without booking, scan the QR code, and pay, which I think is great. But it has more of a truck-stop feel, and the entrance door was a bit dirty. The toilet design is hard to understand. Sitting down or getting up felt awkward and uncomfortable, and the toilet paper holder is so far back that you have to twist around to reach it. See the pictures for yourselves. Fine for a night, but I wouldn't want to stay longer.

The room was small but had everything I needed, and it was clean and tidy. I slept well in the comfortable bed. Booking was quick and easy, and check-in went smoothly. I'd gladly return to Hotel Nord on another visit to Norderstedt.

Getting help in person was nearly impossible because reception was almost never staffed. Over four days, I saw someone there for only about an hour on our arrival day. We stayed four nights, and there were a few things that really affected the stay. The beds were the biggest issue. The double bed was made from two single beds that weren't fastened together, so they kept sliding apart. Even after we pushed them back, the mattresses dipped in the middle. Having to get up several times at night to move them together was very annoying and badly interrupted our sleep. Our room was small, and the TV was fixed where it was barely visible from bed, with no way to adjust it. The bathroom had no proper heating or ventilation, just a vent to the outside, so it was freezing at this time of year. A small fridge in the room would have been nice too. The shower was clogged with someone else's hair, which we had to clear ourselves to stop the water overflowing. The hairdryer was on the floor when we arrived because its holder had come loose. Some kind of drainpipe ran through the room and made intermittent noise, especially annoying at night. On the third day, we put the "Please Clean Up" sign out and were away from 8:00 a.m. until around 3:30 p.m. The room still hadn't been cleaned, so I had to get towels and everything else myself. In a small hotel, rooms with that sign should be cleaned first. Cleanliness was otherwise okay. There were some good points: the hotel is in an industrial area, so there was plenty of free parking even when its own spots were full. The cleaning staff were friendly and helpful, which we appreciated. Wi-Fi worked perfectly, and the code access at both the main entrance and room doors worked well. It's okay for one or two nights at most.
