The basement room had no ventilation or fire alarm, which seemed probably illegal. We’d booked weeks ahead but weren’t told we wouldn’t get a regular, proper room. The window faced the parking area, so leaving it open for air didn’t feel safe, and car fumes came in. We went straight back to complain, but the hostess had left as soon as she handed us the key. Email was the only way to reach staff. We messaged in the late afternoon and got no reply. The next morning, the response we did get was cold and indifferent.
Emma made our stay unforgettable. She welcomed us warmly, showed us around the city, and was so great that we booked another night at the Gasthaus. I especially want to thank her. We were there about two months ago, and it’s a good fit for a stay of two to three nights. The rooms and breakfast were decent, and the S-Bahn and U-Bahn make getting to the city easy. The Alt Stadt may look far away, but it really isn’t. The cleaning woman got angry because I came in when I wasn’t allowed, which I didn’t like. But afterward everything was sparkling clean, so 1000 points for the cleaning personnel. Great work, ma’am, and sorry for interrupting you. A message to the owner: please recognize how valuable good staff are. Emma and the cleaning personnel made our stay very pleasant. Thank you for having us.
Germany’s strike meant I couldn’t travel, but the owner charged me for the whole stay and wouldn’t offer any goodwill gesture.
The location is fantastic, with the Europakai ferry terminal just one street away. The owner was incredibly friendly, the breakfast buffet was plentiful and delicious, and the rooms were spotless.
