Astoria Apartments

We had a great time. The place was super clean, and the friendly cleaning staff deserve kudos. The location, elevator, washing machine, dryer, well-equipped kitchen, bathroom and contactless check-in were all great. A few things could’ve been better: I’d have preferred a different coffee machine, since there was only a cold press and a kettle. The winter comforters could be warmer, and the pillows more supportive. The hairdryer also cuts out every 30 seconds.

The apartments are small, but have the basic amenities, and we appreciated having a laundry room in the basement. The shower setup is the main drawback. Water spills all over the bathroom instead of draining away, and I slipped once, nearly breaking my arm.

Being able to walk everywhere was great, even though we paid quite a lot since we visited right at the start of Christmas market season. Our room was large for two, with a pull-out bed in the convertible couch for a third person. There was good internet and a decent kitchen with the essentials and a fridge. Our room didn’t have a dishwasher, though the instructions suggested some rooms might. There’s no TV, which was fine for us. The bathroom was a bit dark, especially next to the very bright room lighting. If you have a late flight, don’t count on storing luggage on site. They have only 6 lockers, all of which were full, and each fits cabin-sized bags only. We had to walk 10 minutes to a storage room in the city centre and pay extra. It wasn’t a major problem, but I’d expect a luggage room or at least advance notice that storage capacity is so limited.

Getting around was easy thanks to the location near Leipzig’s central station, the metro and the historic city centre. I also liked how the room was set up, with practical furniture, kitchen utensils and accessories that made it comfortable. There’s not much room for large luggage, since only a limited number of lockers are available. I knew about that beforehand, but it can still be inconvenient.
