I loved the restaurant so much I ate there twice. The beer brewed on site was delicious, and both entrees I tried were incredible. My room was huge, one of the nicest I’ve ever stayed in, and honestly nicer than I felt I deserved. The manager was friendly and helpful the whole time. There’s a small parking lot behind the hotel for your car. This place was absolutely worth the price, and I’d recommend it to anyone staying in the region. I was sad to leave.

I’d never been made to cry by someone claiming to own a hotel in all my years of traveling. I had the rate in writing, but he disagreed and told me to leave. It was nighttime, I was alone, and I’d never been there before. I filed formal complaints with booking.com, the police, and NATO, the organization I was traveling for, and even consulted a lawyer about how the man claiming to be the owner treated me. There’s absolutely no justification for a customer to be yelled and cursed at, then told to leave, especially a woman traveling alone at night in a foreign country.

Breakfast was fantastic, and the dinner restaurant is top notch. The hotel and staff were outstanding, and my room was exceptional with an amazing mountain view. It was my third time in Oberammergau, but my first stay at Hotel Maximilian. Every other time it was fully booked, and now I understand why. I highly recommend Hotel Maximilian to anyone visiting the area.

On a tired, rainy day, it was lovely to walk indoors from our room straight to dinner at the brewery. The Ammergauer Maxbrau Brewery is attached to this boutique hotel, which exceeded my expectations. We arrived hours before check-in; they stored our bags and had them in our room when we got back. Our balcony looked out over much of our end of the village, with the famed Kofel Mountain in view. The breakfast buffet had a wide selection: traditional German meats and cheeses, breads, cereals, fresh fruit, vegetables, sweets, eggs, and bacon. There was almond, regular, and lactose-free milk, juices, smoothies, yogurt, coffee, tea, and of course Sekt, or sparkling wine. The gym was more extensive than I expected, with natural equipment including a non-electronic treadmill with wooden slats and a water-resistance rower. The wellness area had a sauna, steam room, hay sauna, large hot tub, showers, a very comfortable relaxation area, and bottled water. Across the street is an Apotheke where you can talk with a pharmacist and get good recommendations for over-the-counter medication and many natural-based remedies. Underground parking is limited to 7 spots, and it’s a tight fit, but doable with a little patience. We’ve stayed in many hotels in Oberammergau, and Maximillian is my personal favorite.
