Hilton Munich Airport

The open, airy feel of the lobby and adjoining atrium was especially welcome after long hours in airports and on planes. My wife and I had a comfortable, quiet Deluxe room with a thoughtful layout, plenty of lighting, a large bathroom, and a comfortable bed. The hotel is about a two-minute walk from Terminal 2, an incredible location. I've stayed in many airport hotels for work over the years, and this is one of the best. Every staff member I dealt with was courteous and helpful.

Sleep matters most to me in a hotel, and the pillows here were comfortable and felt new, not lumpy. The bed was fine, too, with no problems. My room on the third floor was far from the elevator, but the elevator itself was so quiet I doubt it would've bothered me even nearby. I heard a plane once, though it was barely noticeable inside. The room and bathroom were both very nice, although the space between the bathroom door and toilet was odd. The hallway lighting felt like something from a movie. See the video with this review.

Being able to walk straight to the terminal is a huge convenience, especially with an early flight, and the wellness area is pleasant and well maintained. Still, the high price doesn't match the room and service quality. We've raised the missing amenities in earlier reviews and with staff, yet again our room had no bathrobes or slippers. After arriving in the evening, having to call reception for basics before relaxing in the wellness area is frustrating at a hotel of this standard. The rooms feel worn and poorly maintained. There are lots of textiles, especially carpets, with visible stains that gave us doubts about cleanliness. On a previous visit we asked for two bathrobes and only one arrived, another sign of inconsistent service and poor attention to detail. The location and wellness facilities are definite strengths, but we've had enough of these repeated problems and will choose somewhere else next time. Other nearby options offer similar comfort for about half the price. Hilton needs to improve cleanliness, service, and attention to detail to meet the expectations its brand creates.

A room being spacious and comfortable doesn't matter much if you can't trust who has a key to it. I was in my room completely naked when another guest walked in without knocking. The obvious possibility is that the hotel gave someone else the same key card. Aside from how uncomfortable it was, I keep thinking, what if I hadn't been there? They could have entered and taken my things. Reception gave me a brief, sad apology when I called, but no explanation, reassurance, or follow-up. I didn't feel my privacy was taken seriously. The food was another letdown. The online room service menu showed a steak photo for something that wasn't on the menu at all, so I got a Caesar salad instead. It cost 19€ for romaine, tiny croutons I had asked them to leave out but still found one of, and barely any shredded parmesan. I added chicken for another 9€, and it was dry, though the herbed crust helped a little. Then there was an 11€ tray fee. In total, 39€ for one of the saddest Caesar salads I've had. There were some good things: the rooms felt fairly new and were roomy and comfortable. The gym was nice and had a peloton, and the pool looked genuinely pleasant, like a good place to stretch out after travel and pretend life is balanced for a minute. I'd only recommend staying if you have a short layover, need to be as close to the airport as possible, or don't mind questionable privacy and expensive, disappointing food. Spacious rooms, yes. Peace of mind and value, not so much.
