Hotel zum Kronprinzen

We found a lovely city and dinner after all this, but the arrival experience was deeply disappointing. We booked one night on the hotel’s official website and never got confirmation, so I called reception. A kind woman answered in German, then the owner and chef spoke with me in English and confirmed our booking, including our dog 🐕. I asked when the restaurant closed because there was nothing else in the village, and he said last orders were at 19:15. We arrived at 19:30, 15 minutes late, and I apologized and asked if we could still order dinner. The woman I’d spoken to was there, but didn’t speak English; a younger colleague helped us. She checked with the kitchen, where someone started shouting harsh German profanities. When she came back, she looked worried but offered us a table anyway. The menu was only fine dining, with three to five courses costing up to 80 EUR. When I asked for an English translation, the poor young woman had to apologize that this “luxurious” establishment only had a German menu. We decided to check in, leave our bags, and drive to the next town for dinner. I explained we’d skip the meal and just check in. Then the person from the kitchen came out saying, “there is a problem.” I first took it as a grammatically incorrect question, but he meant it as a statement. He was so angry that we wouldn’t spend 200 EUR on his menu without knowing what it included that he threw us out, using our dog as the excuse. Apparently they suddenly had no rooms that could accommodate pets, so our reservation was canceled on the spot. When I asked how that could be, the woman stepped in with a very welcoming “wir sind in Deutschland, sprechen Deutsch!” That ended the conversation. We were left hungry and without a place to stay, and very disappointed by this “Michelin star” hospitality. Fortunately, they hadn’t charged us anything, at least so far. We made a last-minute booking at a pleasant BC Hotel in Bad Kreuznach, a rather lovely city, and had dinner there at 9 pm. All the best to the weird and wild people running the Landhotel "Zum Kronprinzen". I hope never to meet you again.
