Hotel Diehlberg – Tagungs- & Wellnesshotel

I was disappointed to find out that, although wellness appeared bookable online, it couldn't actually be booked. My room also needed attention: the curtains were torn, and the back of the bathroom tap had clearly never been cleaned. Some rooms need maintenance.

We hadn't realized there was a year-end Christmas party going on when we arrived, but everyone made us feel so welcome. We're still talking about how friendly they were, and we'd absolutely come back. Great hotel!

The landscape around the hotel was fascinating, and we enjoyed every moment of our stay. It's also a great place for dogs, with pets allowed everywhere and thoughtful arrangements to make it welcoming for them. Inside, the hotel felt cozy and comfortable, the crew were friendly, and the hospitality was lovely. We had a lot of fun at the bar, too. We’re looking forward to coming back in summer. Definitely recommended.

The food was a big letdown. The pasta was swimming in hollandaise sauce, the salmon was dry, and the gnocchi was overcooked and baked with tomato sauce and cheese, which seemed very unusual. We couldn't find any ratatouille either. The pizza was overcooked and seemed more like a frozen one than something freshly made by a chef. Some staff were kind and tried to accommodate us, even making lunch when we were the only guests and hadn't booked ahead. Others had an inappropriate attitude. In the afternoon, the bar was open for sitting, but service didn't start until later, and staff didn't know how to switch on the lights. New staff weren't trained enough to serve on their own, and there was no experienced person around to help. We could also hear staff discussing their work issues loudly. The beds had been made, but the room lacked the details I'd expect from a four-star hotel. There were dead fruit flies on the sheets, and the stains on the carpet in the room and outside it were unacceptable. Our dog doesn't stain carpets like that, and if a carpet is stained that badly, it needs replacing. I also heard the chef tell a couple who hadn't booked dinner that there wasn't enough food for them. I expect more from a four-star hotel restaurant, even if it's closing the next day. Gnocchi is a simple dish that should be available for last-minute guests. And if the restaurant isn't fully booked, guests shouldn't have to reserve meals in advance.
