Pension Anno 1866

It’s easy to walk into the city center, and the guesthouse itself is in a quiet spot. Email made communication simple, and I liked the relaxed, uncomplicated feel. There’s no reception, of course. For the price, it’s a great deal. I’d happily stay here again.

It was very quiet at the back, but the guesthouse itself carried a lot of noise. Early one morning, we were sitting up in bed because someone was busy in the kitchen. The room looks nicely furnished at first, but the bathroom and shower have no shelves. There’s plenty of space, yet barely room for more than two toothbrush cups. It was also cold when we arrived, so guests’ rooms should be heated in advance. By the second day that was fine, though the bathroom radiator stayed lukewarm, even in March. All in all, it was OK.

We booked at the last minute and everything went smoothly. The room and shower were very clean, and the backyard has both a play area and a barbecue spot, plus a fire pit for a small fire. The one annoyance was that some guests acted as if the shared kitchen belonged only to them. We’ll definitely come back!

The shared kitchen took a little getting used to, but we ended up really enjoying it. The guesthouse is right in the heart of Plauen and furnished very nicely. I had a pleasant stay overall, and it was comfortable and affordable. But cleanliness needs work: on arrival the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned, with lint and fuzz left by previous guests. Dust also looked as though it hadn’t been wiped in quite a while, at least around the headboard and wardrobe.
