Wimbachklamm

We stopped in for lunch last May after visiting Wimbachklam gorge. It’s close to the parking lot and easy to reach from the bus stop, too. The food was really good, with local German beer available, and the portions were generous for a fair price. Our waiter was warm and helpful, doing his best to explain the dishes in English since we don’t speak German. The quiet, old-fashioned atmosphere felt a bit like eating at your grandparents’ place.

The food was the highlight for me. The pork knuckle had wonderfully crisp skin and came with coleslaw and red cabbage, while the deer goulash was tender. And the Kaiserschmarrn with apple sauce was just right, not overly sweet. The host was very friendly, the room clean and cozy, and the location close to hiking trails. So good!

I’d happily stay here again. Everything was perfect.

The room was clean, breakfast was good, and the waitresses were friendly. I stayed two nights with my daughters, but the experience still left us feeling unwelcome. We’d asked whether room service was available and were told no, so my daughter and I went to a nearby restaurant for takeaway. When we returned, the owner scolded her for bringing the food into our room, as though we should have known it wasn’t allowed, then warned us he was making an exception that night. My daughters felt extremely uncomfortable. I wish he’d explained the rule more politely when we arrived.
