TUI BLUE Sylt

The hotel is in the south of Sylt, so having a car was helpful for us. The beach is a short, easy walk away, and it's incredible for strolls, sunsets, and watching nature. We needed a place for three adults, and the two-bedroom apartment options worked really well. I'd suggest the small upgrade to a room with a bay view. The scene from the window was simply too beautiful to describe. I realize Americans may not often travel to Sylt, so this may be an unusual perspective.

The pool was nice and the view from it was great. I also had a very good massage from Kathy, I think that was her name, and she was clearly a skilled professional. The restaurant food was great, with nice options for everyone, though the kids' buffet could use some improvement. Restaurant staff were extremely friendly, while reception was less so. Our room was outdated and needed fresh paint and a much better cleaning. The sheets felt very rough and had several holes, as did the towels. For the price, I expected decent bedding and towels. Maybe a different fabric softener would help. Since it's a beach resort and sand gets everywhere, I wish the apartments had vacuum cleaners. Our room only had a broom and bucket, which didn't do much for the sand.

The apartments had all the essentials for a comfortable stay, plus thoughtful extras like shoe wee caps, vanity sets, sewing kits, and shoe polish. It's a lovely place to stay and enjoy the island. Just keep in mind that checkout is at 10:00.

Getting here from Hamburg by train with the children was easy for me on my own. I took the train from Altona, about three hours, then a short bus ride from Westerland. The hotel is a two-minute walk from the bus stop, so we didn't need a car. We stayed two nights, and I'd happily come back. The weekend felt easy and fun with children, and there were plenty of other facilities we didn't have time to try, including activities, bike rental, surfing lessons, and the spa. Both kids loved the breakfast buffet, and there was loads of choice: cereals, fruit, cooked breakfast, and a low buffet they could browse themselves. As lactose intolerant guests, we really appreciated the alternative milk bar with soya milk, lactose-free milk, and four kinds of oat milk. The restaurant also had two lactose-free sundae options. They'd thought of the small things too, like child-sized cutlery, bibs, bowls, plates, a children's menu with extra choices, and plenty of highchairs and booster seats. We didn't even get to send them upstairs to play in the lighthouse with a trained staff member because they were too busy choosing and eating food. The staff looked after us really well. The hotel was very clean, and our room was cleaned twice on Saturday. That was welcome after our trip to the beach, about a 15-minute walk away. They also had bollerwagens to move our luggage, and the toddler, around the grounds. The children had a great time. Our younger one rode around the grounds on a Bobby Car and enjoyed the playground, while the older one loved the giant outdoor chess set and the swimming pool. We all enjoyed the pool, and the kids' pool was great too. We had a type 1 apartment, with a sofabed for our older child and a travel baby bed in our bedroom for the toddler. Baby bedding, a changing mat, safety bars for our double bed, and the travel cot were provided. They offered a Babyphone as well, though we didn't need it.
