We only worked out where our rooms were after spotting a map and matching it to the room numbers the automated system had given us. At first, the building and room locations weren’t clear. Another couple checking in on their own at the same time also struggled to find their room, so the check-in process could be better.

There’s plenty of free parking, and check-out was handled well. The place has historical significance, and we were welcomed on arrival and given a detailed explanation of our stay. Our room was large and had all the amenities. The pool was clean and nice, though staff could do more to set up the area, and the pool rules weren’t posted. The breakfast buffet was adequate by German hotel standards, but the sausages were lukewarm and not well cooked, and there were only hard-boiled eggs. As a first-time guest, I’d have liked a better explanation at the restaurant entrance about using the tray and clearing my own table. The towels were overused and rough, and management should consider replacing them.

The included breakfast was fantastic, and there’s a wonderful pool on site. The rooms are very spacious, though, like many places to stay in Germany, there’s no air conditioning. St. Bernhard feels like a secret gem for the region, with professional, welcoming staff. The campus is a short walk from the town center, where there are several restaurants and the historic palace. For the price, you can’t find anything better. Highly recommend!

We barely interacted with anyone since check-in was all self-service. The hotel was quiet, and the room was comfortable, though basic and without an electric kettle. We liked the building, which seems like an old school. Staying here during our road trip in Germany was useful for exploring the Black Forrest and Baden-Baden. Parking was plentiful and free, and we had a positive experience overall.
