Hotel & Ferienwohnungen Ettrich

We arrived by train and were at the hotel in two minutes, right beside the station. Check-in was quick, and our room was tidy. The ferry is about a five-minute walk away, and the walk up to the Bastille bridge and back took us exactly two hours. Breakfast was amazing, with plenty of cheeses, meats, cereals, breads, sweet toppings, and pastries. The staff were very accommodating. They brought a baby chair to our table without us even asking. We were only in town for two days, but felt so well looked after that we’ll be back next year. Thanks for a great stay!

There are several vegetarian and vegan choices, and the food was good. The restaurant has a pleasant interior beside the station, but it fills up fast, so booking matters. Service was my one issue: it felt chaotic and unmotivated.

There were no signs explaining the card policy, which seems especially worth making clear in a tourist town. They only take German cards, and that should be stated beforehand. When I offered to get cash from a nearby ATM, the waitress gave an audible sigh. Her discourteous manner was disappointing, especially when other people on the terrace seemed to notice it too. Coffee at over 3 euros a cup also felt expensive. As someone who works in hospitality, I was taught that a smile costs nothing, but the staff here seemed unfamiliar with that idea.

A small breakfast here was really good and cheap, and the staff were helpful and very nice. There was a huge choice of cakes too. It’s a comfortable, pleasant spot near the river. I recommend it.
