Hotel Roter Hahn

The bed was very comfortable, and breakfast was excellent, though the coffee wasn't very flavorful or strong. There are no mini fridge or coffee and tea making facilities. The lift only goes to the first and second floors, then there are stairs for the next two. The hotel is centrally located in the old town, close to both main Christmas markets and just a 1km walk from the Thurn & taxis market. If you've booked parking and are arriving by car, you have to drive through the pedestrian area to reach the car park. The entrance isn't easy to spot, it's a big glass door that looks like the shop next door.

I've stayed here regularly. Just keep in mind it's an old building, that's my only criticism. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are quiet. Breakfast is among the best in Bavaria, so ask for the Eggs Benedict. For a special experience, book dinner, it's truly excellent.

The listing on Booking.com says the rooms have A/C, but ours didn't. Reception brought us a fan, which helped. Paying extra to reserve a spot in their lot is definitely worth it.

We booked late and ended up with a small room. It was fine, though we could hear other guests since the lovely old building isn't soundproof. The staff were polite and attentive, and made sure we understood when we wanted to speak German. The restaurant was the highlight of our New Year stay. The set tasting menu was a real feast, with plenty of extras and options for dietary needs, including pescatarian. The wine pairing was excellent, with some unusual, special bottles. Service was prompt without hovering, and the sommelier was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The timing worked perfectly for the midnight celebration. Breakfast the next morning was delicious and had lots to choose from. The hotel is very central, and getting there from the train station is easy with one bus. We didn't see much of Regensburg because most attractions were shut on 1st Jan, but there's plenty to explore and we'll definitely return. A wonderful way to spend New Year.
