The towels were folded neatly, but everything else made me wonder whether the room had been cleaned at all or had been given to us by mistake. There was toothpaste residue all over the sink, visible dirt on the toilet seat, and the carpet looked as though it hadn’t been vacuumed in a long time. I’m also worried the bed linen hadn’t been changed properly before we arrived. The cleanliness was nowhere near acceptable. This has been my worst hotel experience.

The owner helped me sort out a few practical things while I was travelling through Europe, including laundry, and handled it very professionally. I’d return without hesitation. The hotel has a personal, family-run feel alongside the amenities you’d expect from a larger chain. My room was a small single, simple but just right for what I needed. I ate at the restaurant most days, and the food and service were excellent. I also met some great people from the U.S., Germany, and Austria in the beer garden. Everyone got along so easily. Rothenburg is stunning, and the hotel is in a brilliant spot for getting around town. Highly recommended.

I booked late, so there weren’t many options, but the location was great. The room had an unpleasant smell. I think getting rid of the carpet would help a lot.

Rothenburg was stunning, but the room was so cramped that I had to step over my suitcase just to reach my side of the bed. My husband and I could barely move around, and showering was difficult too. The shower was tiny, you could hardly turn around in it, and we’re not large people. We stayed in five hotels over our 2.5-week trip, and unfortunately this was our least favorite.
