The room had a lovely view, and you could sit on the terrace couches, open the windows, and enjoy it. We stayed in Detwang, a beautiful village near Rothenberg ob der traube. The rooms were clean and spacious, with rustic decor, and breakfast was a good basic option for the low price. Tables were assigned by room and set for the size of each booking. During the holiday season, the lobby looked beautiful with its twinkling Christmas lights. Getting around without a car was hard. There seemed to be only two or three buses between Detwang and Rothenberg ODT in the holiday season, and even then you'd still have quite a bit of walking. With luggage, it's especially awkward, and I'd head back while it was still light. The walk from rothenberg odt to detwang is steep and goes through wilderness. At night, the dark lanes through there felt really scary, and I regretted not booking in the city centre. There were only a few TV channels, all in German, and the carpet looked worn. There was no complimentary mineral water, and the vending machine didn't sell still water either. No kettle in the room was a real problem if you have an infant and need hot water for bottles or to disinfect one. There was no iron, microwave, tea, coffee, or fridge, just the basics. There's no elevator, so you have to carry heavy bags, prams, or strollers upstairs yourself. Check-in was listed as running from 2pm to 6pm, though during the holiday season they were already closing at 5pm. There's no overnight reception, and no shops or grocery stores you can get to at night.
