Althoff Seehotel Ueberfahrt

The service here was top notch, even compared with the luxury hotels I’ve stayed in around the world. Every detail seemed to be noticed. After the first service, an ashtray and matches had been placed by the cigarettes on my bedside table. The bathrooms are beautiful, with heated floors, and the room staff organized everything very well. The front desk team were excellent, too. We asked to move to a higher room with a lake view, and they arranged it with a smile. We have two spa treatments booked for today and already expect them to be excellent. My only gripe is the €20 per night parking charge. After spending €1250 for two days, not including food and drink, paying extra to keep the car there feels a bit cheap and slightly classless. Everything else has been excellent.

The spa was a lovely place to unwind, with swimming, sauna, and wellness treatments set against views of the lake and mountains. On sunny days there’s biking, kayaking, and even paragliding over Tegernsee, and there are plenty of good places to eat in and around the hotel. My stay at Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt was wonderful. The atmosphere is calm and unhurried, and the staff are gentle and attentive without being intrusive. A fresh bottle of water was waiting in my room every morning and evening, a thoughtful touch. It’s an ideal spot for a quiet, luxurious holiday in Germany. I’d love to come back someday.

The price is high, but much of the hotel felt worn out, including the drapes and shower handles. There’s lots of gold plating, yet the actual quality feels low. Compared with other hotels in Leaders and the Tyrol area, this one falls far behind. When we visited, half the spa was under construction, and it was so overloaded that we couldn’t really use it. Even the towels were low quality and quite worn from extensive use. At this price level, it wasn’t what I expected.

The lake access is just a small set of steps with a rail, no beach, but it was perfect for a swim and I loved it. The rooms were splendid, and I liked arriving to light classical music playing over the speakers. Breakfast was among the best I’ve had in a hotel. Certainly one of the best places I’ve stayed!
