Holiday Inn Express Saarbrucken by IHG

We’d been travelling for hours and really needed rest and a shower, so we found a good deal for one night with breakfast. The receptionist was very nice. The room was simple, clean and well put together. We could adjust the temperature with a wall AC controller, and it worked well for both me, since I tend to feel colder, and my partner, who tends to feel hotter. The bathroom was lovely. The hot water got very hot, which I liked for long showers, but my partner prefers cooler water, so needed to be careful with the handle. Hand soap, shampoo and body wash were provided, all from a familiar good brand and with a nice smell. A sign said we could contact reception if we’d forgotten common hygiene or travel items, and they’d provide replacements. There was coffee and tea in the room with a kettle. The bed was very comfortable, with one side softer at the top and the other firmer at the bottom to suit different preferences. We also had two thick but light individual bedspreads. My partner likes to be cooler than I do, and could uncover without disturbing my sleep. Breakfast was especially good for the price, with savory and sweet options, fruit, coffee, really good scrambled eggs, and cute edible sauce cups you could eat with the last bits of sauce inside. They kept closely to the breakfast end time, so make sure you leave enough time. Most signs were in German and English, though some in common areas were only in German. We don’t speak German, so couldn’t read those, but it didn’t cause any problems. There’s an active train line nearby, but the noise wasn’t too disruptive. The whole stay was surprisingly pleasant for the price, especially the breakfast buffet.

The breakfast was the best included hotel breakfast I’ve had in a long time. Staff kept the food stocked and cleared tables, and made for a really good start to the morning. Check-in and check-out were pleasant too. We stayed for two nights in September 2024, and the room was clean and very comfortable. The hotel and grounds were lovely. It’s about a 5-7 minute walk from the train station. Restaurants in the central part of town are around 20 minutes away on foot, and the Schloss and other tourist spots are farther. A local train runs right by the hotel if you’d rather not walk. Across the street there are occupied buildings with some graffiti, but the area seemed safe.

Really clean and quiet, with comfortable rooms and a nice breakfast.

The free breakfast was great, with pancakes, eggs, bread, meat, cheese, drinks, yogurt and cereal. There’s also free, secure parking at the back of the hotel. The rooms are nice, spacious and quiet. A great place to stay.
