The hotel itself was fine, clean and nothing fancy, though the bathrooms felt a little dated. The restaurant was a big letdown. One person was covering every table indoors and outside while also handling reception, so the service was inattentive despite his efforts. The food was mostly below average: dry bread, unsalted butter with no salt on the table, a signature cocktail that tasted like straight Apple cider vinegar, and very bland venison ragout. The trout was decent, and the German venison dumplings (Rehmaultaschen) were excellent. Still, the meal overall wasn't worth the price. 37 Euros for the ragout is insane when a better one is available across the street for 23 Euros.

The servers speak very good English and can explain the dishes, although there’s no English menu. The children’s meals are smaller versions of the adult dishes, which we really like. There’s also a fantastic choice of local wines in half-bottle sizes. Like many places in the Black Forrest, it’s quiet, with good local food and friendly, professional service.

There are lots of great hikes nearby, and after a long day walking, we really enjoyed the wellness facilities for a proper chance to relax. The hotel is high quality, the restaurant was amazing, and the staff were genuinely friendly and kind. We had a great stay and hope to come back to the Sonne hotel for more hiking and downtime.

This is my favorite restaurant around Freiburg. The food is high quality and absolutely delicious, and the place had a Michelin star in the past. It feels like a gourmet restaurant, but the prices are reasonable. The owners are very friendly, the service is great, and the atmosphere is lovely, especially on the sun terrace in summer.

Such a beautiful place with a great atmosphere, but I wasn't impressed by the food's taste. The waitress also kept mixing two different wines in my glass. Really nice setting, just not a perfect experience.
