Parkhotel del Mar

The breakfast was good, and the cooking staff were great 👌🙂. Unfortunately, the manager at reception was unkind and difficult to negotiate with. They asked our crew to leave early in the morning and wouldn’t consider any decisions.

The only real letdown was finding out the advertised sauna had been closed for a long time. Aside from that, it was a great hotel. Our room was clean and roomy, with handy kitchen facilities, and the staff were lovely, especially the breakfast team who made us some nice waffles.

The breakfast buffet was excellent, but the room and the hotel’s response to our concerns made this a very poor stay. We contacted management before posting, and they dismissed the complaint as a matter of “personal sensitivities.” We arrived in the early evening after reception had closed, and getting the key from the key box was straightforward. The room itself was clean, but it looked nothing like the booking photos and had worn furniture arranged awkwardly. A fridge sat on a small table by the entrance, and a concrete pillar blocked much of the TV when watching from the sofa. The beds were squeezed into a narrow space, making one side hard to get in and out of. Only one bed had a bedside table and lamp, although the photos showed both with them. The power sockets were described as being close to the bed, but they were behind the pillows, with the light switch right beside them. They couldn’t be used comfortably while in bed. Moving in our sleep several times pressed the switch with a pillow and turned on the lights, which disrupted our rest. There was no ventilation, and the room faced Sassnitz’s main street. On a warm night, keeping the windows shut meant no fresh air or way to cool down. Opening them brought in traffic noise, including cars, ambulances, and police cars passing in the middle of the night. WiFi was promised throughout the hotel, but during most of our 15-hour stay it either didn’t work or was too slow to use.

The building looks lovely from outside, while inside it’s practical and simple. It was clean and quiet, easy to get into, and breakfast was great. The staff gave excellent service, a real example of German hospitality :)
