Hotel Adlerschanze

The owner was friendly and helpful, and we definitely recommend this unique hotel. The room was nice, and the restaurant where breakfast is served is cute, with Black Forest decorations.

I booked a double room with a king-size bed for a romantic getaway, but when I arrived, the room was small and had two twin beds pushed foot to foot. I asked about the room I'd actually booked and was told it had become unavailable that morning. No one contacted me beforehand, so it felt like a bait and switch. They didn't offer a discount either. I was very upset and ended up leaving without staying.

I couldn't enjoy the hotel or its amenities because I was so sick, but the owners did everything they could to help. They found medicine for my mother to give me, then even made soup especially for me and brought it to the room while I was stuck in bed with a fever. I stayed here in 2010 with my mother and friends, and after traveling a lot around Germany, I can say I've never met kinder, more hospitable owners. They really took us under their wings. I'm not suggesting everyone should expect that kind of care, but these owners are rare. I'll always be grateful, and if I'm ever back in the area, I'll stay with them again and thank them with a kiss.

There was just one staff member, and nobody offered to help with my luggage, which surprised me since other small hotels have helped me when I was traveling alone. The hotel sits high on a hill, with 30 steps up to the entrance. It could use updating, and my room didn't have a fridge.
