The rooms were seriously quiet, even though the hotel is right beside the train station. With the windows closed, I couldn’t hear anything, thanks to the 1st glass double glazing. Wi-Fi was great and speedy too. I ended up here for 3 nights because my usual Hamburg hotels were full for a big conference, and I was really pleasantly surprised. The rooms are well laid out and feel like real quality, with big comfy beds, a great walk-in shower, and plenty of wardrobe space. 5 stars from me!

We loved our top-floor suite at CLOUNYS | Boutique Hotel und Casa di Bianca Restaurant. It was fresh and thoughtfully put together, with lovely colors and materials that showed professional design. The bed was great and the shower excellent. One thing to know is that the elevator only reaches the second floor, so you’ll take the stairs for the last part. With the windows open, we could hear the subway until about 11 pm, then it was quiet. The top floor might get a bit warm in summer. Casa di Bianca downstairs is worth a visit. The Italian menu has pizza and pasta, along with fish and meat dishes, and my vitello tonnato was excellent. Breakfast was well taken care of, with lots of tasty choices and good coffee. Everyone in the hotel and restaurant was genuinely friendly and welcoming. A stylish, comfortable place that’s well run and has a strong personal touch.

I loved this neighborhood enough to spend a rest day exploring the couple of blocks around the hotel and taking a nap. The location is steps from the train station, which worked well for me since Hamburg’s public transport is great. The Wi-Fi was spotty, but I took that as a reminder to be present and not work or worry about the rest of the world. The bed, pillows, and bedding were all so comfortable. I had dinner at the Italian restaurant connected to the hotel, and it was perfection. The vegetarian lasagne was delicious, and they make a spot-on sweet and sour lemon drop. I wish I’d found this place on my first trip to Hamburg. It’s my new favorite hotel, and I’d choose it again if I come back.

On my second visit in two months, we had dinner on the 23rd of December. The Christmas decorations inside were lovely. The goose was amazing, with fatless meat and a great plum gravy sauce, plus a panko dumpling and red cabbage with cranberry sauce. Bread with duck fat and onions was just okay. Service was okay this time and the food arrived in a reasonable time. My first restaurant review was from a Friday night in early November. The modern interior, part of a hotel, was lovely and we got a warm welcome. The bread with tapenade was nice but heavy on garlic, and the wine markups were reasonable. The Wiener schnitzel was good, and the cucumber and potato salad was excellent, with grilled potatoes mixed into it. There was redcurrant compote with the dish. Service was hit and miss: one person asked for the wifi password, and the waiter walked off to take orders at another table, which felt rather rude. Another waitress eventually brought the password, which was on a placard holder. The food was good, but the inconsistent service let it down.

If you need to stay in Wellingsbüttel, this is the place. It’s a small, well-run hotel close to the s-bahn, and the people running it are lovely. I’m not sure I’d stay in Wellingsbüttel if my daughter didn’t live there.
