We really enjoyed staying at the Helmer Hotel. It's in the quiet, pastoral Bavarian village of Schwangua, about a five-minute drive from the castles. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and both breakfast and dinner were delicious. We'd definitely recommend it.

I can only comment on the restaurant. The chicken breast was small, and with two drinks our bill came to 50€. We asked for tap water but got a bottle charged at 5,40€ 😱😱😱. We told them we were sharing the platter, yet they added a 2€ service fee for an empty plate without telling us. There wasn't even enough food for one person. I've never paid so much for such a little piece of chicken.

The view from our balcony over the mountains and village was spectacular, and there are lovely paved walking paths through the countryside leading toward the cable car and castle area. The hotel has that wonderful family-run feel, with real attention to detail. It made the place feel unique.

We've stayed here two years running and love this hotel. It's in a quiet village, and there are plenty of bikes to ride around the beautiful area. We love coming here.

This was our second stay at the hotel, in such lovely surroundings. It's a good base for mountain hikes, and using the free bikes to get around Schwangau and Füssen is a great idea. One small thing that would be nice: an electric kettle in the room for a couple of cups of tea after a long hike.
