Landhotel Huberhof

The location is great, but I wish I’d booked somewhere else. The pillows were awful and I didn’t sleep well a single night. On the first floor, the roof covers half the window, and the Wi-Fi was weak and kept disconnecting. My back was hurting by the end.

We waited before writing this to try to be objective. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable, but it was neglected. The couch fabric was so worn they had to bring a cover before we could use it. The bathroom looked nicely finished, though the tiles were cracked and damaged, the shower hose was fractured, and the tablecloth was stained. These things should have been noticed during daily cleaning. We raised the issues with staff, so it isn’t true that we didn’t mention them. At E156/night plus tax, it was poor value, and we can’t recommend it. Breakfast was included, and the website showed a large buffet, but there wasn’t one. We were given a card in German to mark, with no English version; the waiter did his best to translate. The rolls were tiny, and ticking cucumber meant getting one slice. The room was crowded, so we were seated in a backroom. At the second breakfast there were few people and empty tables in the main room, but we were sent to the backroom again. The manager said the main room was reserved and that seating had been ‘allocated’, even though we hadn’t been told we needed to book breakfast. When we left at 9.45 am, several tables still hadn’t been used. After we asked about the room condition and the “tap water E1.50” issue, we felt staff saw us as a nuisance and relegated us to the backroom. For our third breakfast, we were seated in the main room. We’d stayed here some years ago and returned for dinner, but didn’t go back after the first night. My wife asked for tap water and was brought a jug. The bill listed “jug of tap water E1.50”. The waiter said his bosses had instructed him to charge it, and we weren’t impressed. Apart from our first waiter, who was pleasant and helpful throughout, staff were surly from the top down. Asking the receptionist anything felt like too much trouble. When we were paying, the manager said the credit card wouldn’t work and cash was needed. We told him it had worked on our first night, and he eventually asked someone for help. It was hard to imagine the manager not knowing how it worked.

Such a lovely place, and the service was fantastic. The staff are super friendly. Rooms get pretty warm in summer, so a fan would be a welcome addition.

We really enjoyed our stay and were very happy with the rooms for the price. We booked a standard double and a double comfort room. They shouldn’t be compared with rooms in more luxurious, expensive hotels, but they suited us well. The staff worked hard and were friendly throughout. We had two small suggestions. Air conditioning would make the rooms more comfortable in hotter summers. It wasn’t really too hot inside, even with 32c outside, and we understand it may be difficult to install units in a building like this. Also, a buffet breakfast might make it easier to choose portion sizes than marking food on a card to be brought to the table. The card had plenty of choice, though, and we enjoyed breakfast. We ate dinner in the hotel garden restaurant for convenience and liked it so much we had the Turkey two days in a row. We ordered it with delicious homemade pommes frites instead of prätzel. The meals were so good that we’d recommend the restaurant whether you’re staying at the hotel or just passing through looking for somewhere to eat.
