I used the hotel as a base for exploring the Hurtgen Forest battlefield, staying four nights in early August. Simmerath is a pleasant small town with the usual services, including a doctor, stores, and post office. The room was comfortable, the host was very friendly when I arrived, and breakfast was a good buffet. There’s also a decent restaurant just down the road for when the hotel’s wine bar / restaurant is closed, as it was on Sunday.

The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were nice, and breakfast was great. The owners also run a nice winebar. It’s a very nice hotel in lovely Simmerath, easy to get to by car or bus.

Breakfast comes with the stay and was excellent, with plenty for everyone, including hot and cold options like eggs, bacon, and sausages. The rooms are small but clean, modern, and quiet, and parking is easy. The one downside is the limited amenities: there’s no kettle, tea or coffee cups, or mini-fridge.

I really liked the breakfast room, with the old beams exposed and the whole front wall opened up with glass. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They’ve combined traditional architecture and furniture with modern furnishings and design so the place feels welcoming and cozy without seeming old. My only regret is that I stayed such a short time.

The rooms are modern, cozy, well equipped, and clean, and breakfast is included, which is a real plus. The price is very reasonable, so it’s an obvious choice in the area. It’s close to Monschau by car, with a wine bar at the hotel and restaurants nearby in Simmerath.
