Elbterrasse Wehlen

We stayed in the “Bastei” apartment with the Kräuterer family from May 23rd to 26th, 2025. The garden was beautifully kept, and the apartment was furnished in a practical, tasteful way. We felt at home from the friendly welcome onward. The owners were always available, and our special requests were no trouble. We’d happily recommend Pension Elbterasse Wehlen.

Our apartment was cosy, spacious, and excellent, with very good Wi-Fi and private parking in the courtyard. There’s a lovely garden with places to sit, too. The herbalists were very friendly and helpful, and we were very satisfied with our stay. It’s a handy base for trips: the market square restaurants are two minutes away, and the ferry is three minutes away. With a guest card, the passenger ferry is free. From the other side, you can catch the S-Bahn to Dresden or Pirna. For shopping, you’ll need to go to Pirna, about 5 km away, where there’s a Kaufland supermarket.

We’re coming back for the 10th time, which says plenty about how comfortable the apartments at Pension Elbterasse Wehlen are. The hosts are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the house has a warm, welcoming feel. It’s peaceful right by the Elbe, with a beautifully landscaped garden terrace where you can unwind. There’s really nothing else we need for a relaxing stay.

Wehlen made a great base for our excursions. A trail to the Bastei rock formation starts just around the corner, and most destinations are within a 30-minute drive. The village has a bakery with excellent products but no supermarket, so Pirna, about 15 minutes away, is the place to shop. If you don’t want to cook, there’s a snack bar, Italian restaurant, and small café within a five-minute walk. We stayed six days in the Lilienstein vacation apartment. It was my first visit to Saxon Switzerland, and I chose the accommodation by chance. What a good choice. The owners were very nice, though Mr. Kräuterer was the only one there during our stay. He gave us a warm welcome and tips on excursions, restaurants, and shopping. The maisonette has a stone-clad lower level with a vaulted feel, where the kitchen and bathroom are. The bathroom has a shower, toilet, and sink, and two rolls of toilet paper were provided. The kitchen has a fridge without a freezer compartment, stainless steel sink, double induction cooktop, plenty of dishes, and two pots. Bring a frying pan if you plan to fry anything, and bring your own spices. Cleaning supplies and cloths are there, and you can bring your own towel if you like. There’s a little entry area with two armchairs, a mirror, and somewhere to hang things. A stone staircase leads up to the wood-lined sleeping area, which has a lovely large double bed overlooking the terrace, plus a sofa, two chairs, and a small table. The terrace at Haus Lilienstein is for your own use, with two seating areas, chairs and a table, and a large parasol. It was comfortable to sit out for breakfast or dinner and look at the Elbe. We really enjoyed our stay. Thanks again for the warm welcome and lovely time.
