Hotel La Fert

They said check-in was only possible before 11 and didn’t care that my flight landed at night. Terrible service.

Need a good night’s sleep, breakfast, parking, or just a pleasant place to stay? I wouldn’t choose this hotel for any of those.

Good value for money, with really helpful and friendly staff and convenient public transport. Restaurants are only a three-minute walk away, and I’d recommend it for an overnight stop. I didn’t try breakfast. Parking is hard to find, and the hotel has only four spaces of its own, at €10 a day. The room was large enough for three beds but a bit dirty, on the second floor with no lift. The mattress was too soft for me and gave me back pain after two nights. It’s a shame the kitchen facilities aren’t available.

We travel often and have never been treated like this. The room was dirty, with old dust under the bed spreading around. We later read other guests’ accounts of being accused of taking towels and having money charged without permission, so it seems we weren’t the only ones to have this kind of experience. The first problem came with parking. They advertise free parking, but it’s in someone else’s private area, where hotel guests can’t legally park. We had to leave the car in a distant lot to avoid a fine. We also brought our well-behaved cat, as the website says pets are allowed. She travels with us to hotels all the time, and we asked management not to enter and clean so they wouldn’t scare her. Yet someone went into the room while we were out, which we noticed when some belongings had been moved. We ran into management in the hallway several times and they said nothing. We left at 7:00 AM for work, before management opened at 8:00, so we left the keys and went. At lunchtime the hotel took €200 from our card without explaining or asking. It took a week of trying to find out why before they said the cat had scratched the sofa and they were charging compensation. That wasn’t true: her claws are trimmed, she’s well behaved, and the furniture wasn’t scratched. We believe this was a pretext to take our money. Avoid this place.
