Gasthaus Rehwinkel

I've been staying here many times since 1998. It's a simple B&B at a good price, and a great option for a one-night stop. The underground garage for bikers costs 2€, and the B&B is 49€. Just keep in mind that Titisee closes early if you're looking for food in town.

We only stayed because we'd already paid for the booking. After a long hike, we arrived for two nights at a place that looked pleasantly old-fashioned, but felt more second-hand than welcoming. There was no soap or other hygiene product to wash our hands or shower with. When we asked at reception, they said there was no soap, so after an eight-hour walk we had to shower without any. The bathroom ceiling had water stains, the shower stall was moldy, there was no hair dryer, and a note on the door asked us to leave it open for ventilation. We were waiting for breakfast, but it was very minimal, even though the cheese was nicely presented. We asked for a tomato and waited a long time before getting a no. On the first morning we got juice and a few slices of cheese. On the second, there was no juice. They asked if we wanted cheese, we said yes, and then they forgot to bring it.

The location was handy, within walking distance of the center but not right in the middle of it. The people working there were very friendly, and the women who checked us in spoke English. Apart from her, though, none of them did. Breakfast was a downside. For two people, it was four buns, butter, strawberry jam, and a glass of orange juice, with cheese, ham, coffee, or tea if you wanted. Clearing away some decorations could make room for a small breakfast corner with yogurt and fruit. The shower was very small and took ages to warm up. There was no Wi-Fi or air conditioning, and the pillows practically disappeared when you lay on them. It seemed like a place mostly for older German guests.

A nice place to enjoy the German style, and breakfast was good and enough. The one thing I missed was Wi-Fi, which they don't provide.
