La Faya "Molerhüsli"

The location in the Black Forest area is perfect. It's a beautiful, newly equipped place that looks like it belongs in a magazine. You can tell a lot of thought and personal care went into it.

A lovely garden, a terrace for eating outside and a barbecue, plus every appliance you can think of. This is a beautiful holiday house in the Black Forest.

The location is great, and the house itself was very nice and well equipped for our five adults and a toddler. The furnishings were okay. We did have some trouble with the heating, though. It wasn't preheated when we arrived, so warming the place up took a long time. Once the living room downstairs was warm, the bedrooms got very, very hot. 😂 We vacuumed first. The basement bar wasn't heated, which made it unusable in winter, and the sauna needs a couple of boards attached.

The house is in a quiet spot, and we slept wonderfully during our 14-day stay. The beds are excellent, the location works well for hiking, and with longer walks you can leave the car parked for two weeks. Shopping in Todtnau is good. Still, the current asking price is unreasonable, and the condition reflects a long-outdated classification. In our view, the interior needs to be brought up to a standard that matches the price, or the price should be adjusted to reflect the current condition. We stayed for two weeks in May 2025 and have rented holiday homes for years as a couple with our dog, so we have a good basis for comparing what this house offers at its nightly rate. When we arrived, we called the agency managing the house and got no answer. After calling again, we were asked to email our comments so they could help straight away. We heard nothing during the twelve days before we left on May 17th. As the last, more recent review already described, the interior is showing its age. The listing photos appear to be from just after the renovation and no longer show the current condition. Families with small children should know that the dog beds and children's beds are stacked together or on top of each other in a basement room. In general, the basement rooms don't feel welcoming. During our stay, ski gear and other household items were stored in the sauna, which would have needed cleaning before it could be used. The attractively photographed basement bar was freezing and uncomfortable even in May. The agency, like the rest of the house, hadn't preheated the basement at all. The kitchen was definitely incomplete. A casserole dish was missing, the kitchen scale had a dead battery, and the sink faucet had a broken magnet. The charcoal grill was dirty and unusable as it was. The garden was neglected and hadn't been mowed for two weeks. With our dog that wasn't a real issue, but in another context the agency said by phone that the caretaker “...didn't have time...” for two weeks?! The downstairs shower room curtains were yellowed and had been broken for a long time. The curtain rods in the living room and upstairs bedroom were in a similar state. They were either mounted backwards and sagging, or held to the walls with household ties used as makeshift plugs, so the curtain threatened to fall out when closed. The seat upholstery badly needed cleaning, with stains and watermarks, and there was dust and debris on the cupboards. I'm “unfortunately” 197 cm tall, so I noticed the dust. All the smoke detectors were out of order or had been removed. The lights were poorly mounted, the insect screens had holes like cheese, the outdoor planters were empty, and the kitchen cupboard was literally falling apart. We usually return to places we enjoy, and we like this area for its culinary options. But we won't rent this house again.
