Breakfast and the afternoon cakes were wonderful, especially the Black Forest gateau. The Pension also serves a fantastic evening meal on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and there are lovely restaurants nearby. We came for a skiing holiday and couldn’t fault the place. It’s spotless and charming, with cross country and alpine skiing close by and a lift about 100 metres from the door. The quiet village feels like a hidden winter sports spot, with its own lifts for the nearby hills. The family were welcoming and did everything they could to make our stay relaxed and enjoyable. We’d definitely return.

The coffee shop’s freshly baked cakes and pastries are a real highlight. Their award-winning Black Forest cherry cake is especially delicious. Our kids love visiting too, thanks in part to all the things to do nearby: the suspension bridge, summer toboggan run, waterfalls and more. The Glöcklehof sits in a quiet spot at the edge of the village, with ski lifts right outside in winter and walks and hikes for all levels in summer. Even hiking with a double stroller is easy. We’ve been coming back for over 40 years and still love it. The apartments are spacious, spotless and well maintained, with modern but comfortable furnishings.

The café is open on weekends and holidays, and the homemade cakes are some of the best we’ve had. It gets very busy, though, and can feel hectic when all the tables are taken 10 or 15 minutes before opening. Be ready to wait if you plan to go, but the cakes are worth it. This was our second New Year’s holiday at Glöcklehof with our two young children. The apartments are modern and clean, the setting at the top of the village is beautiful, and the hosts are incredibly friendly and accommodating. We felt comfortable the whole time and had a relaxing stay.
