Hotel Aulmann

There were lots of frog cartoons or figures around, and the room was very nice. The hotel is in a great spot near the centre, only a few minutes' walk from the river.

The location was good and the people were nice, but the bed was a problem for me. Both the frame and mattress had almost no support and were extremely soft. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels across the US, EU, and Asia, and this was the softest bed I've come across. The mattress felt like a sponge, and after several nights my back hurt a bit. I was surprised not to see anyone else mention how soft it was. Maybe German locals like this kind of bed, but it didn't work for me. If you don't like a soft mattress, this may not be the hotel for you. The furnishings also felt old-fashioned and cheap, and it's hard to believe it's a 3-star hotel in central Trier, though someone could say it's a small city. There was no complimentary water, let alone tea or coffee. I thought those were standard hotel offerings, but I'm not going to complain about it.

The old town sights and riverside walking area are only a few steps away, and they let us leave our SUV in the roomy parking spot until 1 after checkout while we explored. The bathroom was spacious, though the bedroom itself was a little small. Breakfast was typical, and the staff were lovely. I understand the good reviews.

On February 22, we paid for a room online using my wife's phone because mine had run out of battery. When we got to the entrance at 20:51, the door was locked, and we couldn't access the email with the entry information, which had only been sent an hour earlier. We called the emergency number from her phone, and somebody answered.
